By far, this is one of my favorite quilt patterns because it lends itself so well purging scraps and depleting one’s stash. This is a traditional pattern, but with the right fabrics it takes on a modern look. Aren’t these great! Be sure to download the pattern here: Irish Chain (page 1) Mod Irish Chain (page 2)

Well, the quilt top is finally complete! And I have to say, it turned out way better than I thought it would. Not that I doubted Jen’s expertise, but when you’re looking at the fabric up close it’s difficult to see the contrast. It wasn’t until I stood back a few feet that I could see the design. Though, taking a photo really helped out a lot too. Be sure to check out the Flickr group!

After about an hour of unsuccessfully gathering fabric into a pile for “In Color Quilts” quilt along. I needed to regroup and start the whole process over again. This time, I broke the process into several steps. Step 1: Review the basic color wheel. Step 2: Pick one fabric from each of the colors in the wheel. Step 3: Fill in the gaps until you have enough fabrics for the top. Now that’s much better!

Yes, it possible that i fibbed a little when writing about the de-stash challenge. I completely forgot about my fabric bundle subscription with Pink Chalk Fabrics. This wonderful bundle was left on my doorstep yesterday and I’m terribly pleased at it’s arrival. There aren’t any specific plans for it yet. Nonetheless, the colors remind me of the ocean so an ocean themed quilt is now on my list. All the best!June Fabric Bundle 1, a photo by Ava Landen on Flickr.
