Mod Chains (Free Quilt Pattern)
By far, this is one of my favorite quilt patterns because it lends itself so well purging scraps and depleting one’s stash. This is a traditional pattern, but with the right fabrics it takes on a modern look. Aren’t these great! Be sure to download the pattern here: Irish Chain (page 1) Mod Irish Chain (page 2)...
Rainbow Modern Triangle Quilt
Ready. Set. Quilt.
Well, the quilt top is finally complete! And I have to say, it turned out way better than I thought it would. Not that I doubted Jen’s expertise, but when you’re looking at the fabric up close it’s difficult to see the contrast. It wasn’t until I stood back a few feet that I could see the design. Though, taking a photo really helped out a lot too. Be sure to check out the Flickr group!...

Quilting Purple Circus
Hello. Meet Purple Circus. This little fellow was created April 20, 2011 from Echino purple linen and various prints from Michael Miller. I didn’t have a particular purpose when making it. It was just sort of a happy accident. I was walking around Intown Quilt Shop in Atlanta and stumbled across the Michael Miller fabrics sitting on the fat quarter display. I picked up a couple and when I returned home I realized I had a yard of Echino in my stash that matched it perfectly. So, sketched out a few designs in my trusty notebook and commenced cutting, sewing...

Scooter Quilt
I’ve finally got around to posting this wonderful quilt for sale in my Etsy store and to be honest, i didn’t really want to do it. I really like this this quilt. It makes me smile when i look at it. seriously, how can you not see pink, yellow and sky blue and not think of good times. I made with Robert Kaufman’s Essex in light blue, Heather Bailey’s Pop Garden and the pink print is from Moda....

Confetti Quilt … Not quite a quilt along, but close
Okay, it’s been a long holiday season and I’m ready to get back to designing quilt tops. Woot! In the Ava Landen tradition, I’m kicking off the new year with a fun scrap quilt to help purge last year’s fabric hoarding purchases and make room for this year’s new collections This quilt is wonderful because it only uses 5 fat quarters and 2 1/8 yards of solid fabric! At 50×60 inches it makes a rather comfy lap quilt and comes together so quickly, it’s my new “giftable” quilt. You know, those quilts you’re willing to actually give away to people...
Morning sewing — Fandango Quilt
It’s a good morning when you can wake up and sew for a couple of hours in complete silence. I believe I found heaven…at least for 2 hours. The quilt block to the left is from a pattern called, “Daisy Chain,” from Pam & Nicky Lintott’s book, “Jelly Roll Quilts.” If you recall, it’s the second time I’m making this quilt pattern this year. So far it’s been one of my favorite patterns to make because it looks more complicated than it actually is and sews up in no time. Seriously, I promise. I started this quilt last weekend after...
What can you do with a Moda candy bar?

Sew-a-Thon Update
At approximately 7pm on Friday, September 24, 2010, 12 crafty women commenced sewing. Some worked on children’s clothing, another on reversible bags, and one ambitious young lady diligently worked on a wedding dress. As for me, I worked on a baby quilt. By the time midnight rolled around we were still 12 women strong. It wasn’t until the introduction of the pillow case challenges that people were picked off one at a time. The first couple of rounds it was easy to sew the pillow cases fairly quickly, but at around 5.30am it seemed like an impossible task. And it...
The Supplies, Crafts and More Planning
The Sew-A-Thon requires that I provide my own patterns, fabric, notions, and machine…. oh, my. I figure the best way to prepare is to have a plan. I know…it’s a little hardcore for just one night of crafting, but I really want to win the grand prize. Oh, did I forget to mention the grand prize? It’s a weekend sewing retreat worth $600 in the GA mountains. Nice, huh? Let’s get on with the planning. 1) Projects I’ve categorized the projects from complex to easy. That way as the night progress I can work on the least complex craft at...
