I {heart} Flea Market Fancy Quilt
Actually…it’s more like an obscene obsession. This fabric is simply wonderful. It’s cheery, modern and….ridiculously expensive. Even on Etsy, one seller has it listed for $45/yard. Ouch. It’s lovely, but I’d go broke trying to make a lap quilt. So, what is one to do? CHEAT! Of course! I went ahead and purchased this fabric called “Cheater Friday” on Spoonflower.com last Monday. The colors are pretty much dead on, except for the brown print. Though, I think  I get over that. Now, before you get all excited about purchasing it, I have to tell you…Spoonflower stopped selling it I’m not...
The Supplies, Crafts and More Planning
The Sew-A-Thon requires that I provide my own patterns, fabric, notions, and machine…. oh, my. I figure the best way to prepare is to have a plan. I know…it’s a little hardcore for just one night of crafting, but I really want to win the grand prize. Oh, did I forget to mention the grand prize? It’s a weekend sewing retreat worth $600 in the GA mountains. Nice, huh? Let’s get on with the planning. 1) Projects I’ve categorized the projects from complex to easy. That way as the night progress I can work on the least complex craft at...
The Rules: Sew-A-Thon
I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself for this Friday’s event. I’ve never participated in this type of event, so to be honest I’m not even sure what to expect. I did receive a letter containing all of the rules, so here are the highlights — with my commentary of course Rule #1: Contestants sew fifty-five (55) minutes out of each hour until only one stitcher remains. So, ummm…. I only get five minutes to pee. I really hope there isn’t a line. Rule #2: Stitchers provide their own patterns, fabric, thread, notions and machines. I can live with...
Whipstitch Fabric’s Sew-A-Thon
Whipstitch Fabrics is having it’s second annual Sew-a-Thon next Friday, September 24th. Woot! I’ve never done this before and to be honest, I’m not entirely sure what to expect other than a whole lot of straight stitching with some (slightly buzzed) wonky friends. On second thought, I should probably carry some band-aides with me as well More information can be found here: http://whipstitchfabrics.com/classes/second-annual-sew-a-thon/...
Eight Point Star
Eight Point Star Originally uploaded by avalanden I completed the blocks for my 8 pointed star, but, to be honest, I’m not entirely sure what to do now. I can sew it into a tote bag, pillow, apron or mini-quilt. I haven’t really worked that part out in my head yet. Nonetheless, I’ve at least started my project. So, that’s an accomplishment right? The design I’m going for is a floating diamond look. I think I’ll get that as long as I keep with the natural Essex surrounding it. The continuation in fabric colors is of the utmost importance. For...
Joann’s on Sale
It’s not often that Joann’s entire store goes on sale but when it does, it’s awesome. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t purchase fabric from here — that’s reserved for my LQS’s. But when it comes to everything else, it’s fair game. So, what are the highlights? 1) Packaged Batting is 40% off. 2)Duck Canvas is 50% off. Can anyone say, “New Tote Bag” 3) Olfa cutting supplies — yeppers 50% off as well. Woot! These sales start June 13th....
Ah…the (modified) process pledge
I’m noticing quite a few quilters are taking the process pledge and while I’m benefiting greatly from their shared knowledge, I’m not entirely sure if I’ll be able to take the pledge this year and actually fulfill my commitment to it. My schedule is a bit crammed right now, so I’d rather not make a promise that I know can’t be fulfilled. It just doesn’t seem right. So, here’s what I’m going to do: I promise to post as much information as possible about each of the quilts I make. Sometimes, this may occur a couple of weeks/possibly months after...
She’s done it again!
Originally uploaded by Natalia @ Piece N Quilt I don’t know how she does it but every time Natalie (from Piece N Quilt) touches Moda pre-cuts, they turn into the most amazing quilts. Her latest creation uses Bella Solids in 5inch squares and in a simple to sew arrangement. I absolutely love this and I’ll be adding to list of future quilts....
Modern Swappers Badge
Modern Swappers Badge Originally uploaded by Tweedledee Designs It’s official. I joined the Modern Swappers this morning! I’m a little excited, but I keep thinking….”What if my partner hates it?!” Which is a bit odd, because a) I haven’t picked out anything to sew and b) i haven’t been assigned a partner yet. So maybe this freak out is a bit premature :0) I’ve never participated in a group like this before, but the instructions are pretty simple. Send the following items on or before September 1 2010: 1. Quilt store quality modern fabric in your partners taste/interest. 2. Something...
